Summer’s Top Trends at Per Lei

Per Lei SIC 6

If your weekend plans include a trip to the beach, the new Per Lei boutique in Sea Isle City, NJ has all the style you’ll need at the shore!

Per Lei, which means ‘for her’ in Italian, opened its first location in Media, PA in October 2007 with the aim to create a shopping experience all about the women that wear their clothes by offering an upscale shopping experience with an intimate feeling through convenience, selection and experience.

With the Memorial Day opening of the Sea Isle City boutique, Per Lei has now expanded to three locations including a second shore store in Avalon, NJ. So on a day that truly meant to be nothing other than a beach day, I took a little drive down to SIC to take a look for myself!

The SIC store carries all the upscale brands you’d expect to find at Per Lei including Lilly Pulitzer, Trina Turk, Tibi, Diane von Furstenburg, Free People, House of Harlow, Alice + Olivia, and Joe’s Jeans plus many more. With all these gorgeous clothes and accessories, I was inspired to shoot some ensembles featuring the hottest Summer 2013 trends.

Now & Later: Mint Condition

I’ve always been a fan of the color green but mostly the really deep shades of evergreen, the classic olive, and jewel toned emerald but lately this very special shade of green is speaking to me. This pretty hue is soft yet vibrant and pairs so well with gray right now which is a huge staple of my cooler weather wardrobe. Later, when the temp rises, this color looks fantastic with a tan and mint is perfect with your spring/summer neutrals and white. If you’re feeling especially girly, try going pastel from head to toe!

“Scary Beautiful” by Leanie van der Vyver

“Scary Beautiful” by Leanie van der Vyver.

Deemed the “scariest shoes of all time” by Joanna Douglas, senior fashion and beauty editor at Shine for Yahoo!, these spectacular shoes by South African artist Leanie van der Vyver + Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg are much more than an outlandish display of frivolous fashion. Aptly named “Scary Beautiful” by the artist, these shoes serve as commentary on society’s perfectionism obsession and despite their inability to articulate, the impact of their message is profound.

In the words of the artist, Leanie van der Vyver, “Humans are Playing God by physically and metaphorically perfecting themselves. Beauty is currently at an all time climax, allowing this project to explore what lies beyond perfection.” (‘Playing God’ is a link to the introduction of her thesis of the same name. It’s only two paragraphs and well worth reading.)

How better to express a disdain of the ceaseless mania associated with achieving physical perfection than to create a pair of shoes that demand attention and instantly spark controversy? In the most elegant manner possible, van der Vyver has stirred the pot of conventionality and through her sensational design has, at least, given this blogger renewed perspective on perfection.

The final question remains…can you actually walk in these things?! Sure! But I hope you aren’t in a hurry.
