The 35th Anniversary LAGOS Sample Sale

Oh, yes, darlings, it’s that very special time of year.  The one time a year LAGOS hosts its annual Sample Sale.  Last night, I attended their Friends & Family evening, despite the second storm to descend upon NJ in 10 days. There was no way snowflakes were stopping me!
LAGOS, Inc.
The selection of their gorgeous jewelry was fantastic, pieces of stunning silver and gold, rich gemstones, luminescent pearls, and of course, every girl’s best friend, the diamonds. All at 50% off. Yes, you read that correctly, 50% off. And I have all the details, just for you!
I was just giddy with joy perusing the cases and picking out each piece I wanted to take to my table and try on. Lagos’ pieces have this aura about them that makes each piece feel so special that you can’t help but glow while wearing their jewelry. It was so difficult deciding which pieces to take home but I managed to do so without breaking a sweat (phew!). I fell in love with a torque bracelet in their signature caviar design with smokey quartz and also purchased absolutely spectacular pearl earrings for my mom’s upcoming birthday.
Ok, enough suspense, here are all the details! The sale is open to the public so feel free to bring a friend(s), your mom, sister, or even drag your guy along! And get started on your holiday shopping!
LAGOS Sample Sale
Lagos, Inc. is located in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia at 441 N. 5th St.
Be sure to visit LAGOS Sample Sale where they have helpful info on arrival & check-in, what to expect, and insider tips!

Philly FABB’s Blogger Blowout Bash recap

Hi darlings,
I’m so thrilled to finally be able to share this with all of you! For the past 2 months, I’ve been working on a network for fashion and beauty bloggers. May I present: Philly FABB! It’s a new premiere network for fashion and beauty bloggers of the PHL area. Philly FABB was founded with the aims of unifying the fashion and beauty bloggers of the PHL area.

FABB founder: Lauren from The Style Darling, Megan from Meggywood, Philly FABB founder: Jessie from Trend Hungry.

Our first event, The Blogger Blowout Bash, held on Thursday, November 1st, brought the bloggers together for the first time and gave them a chance to network, nosh, and get a little pampering!  Enter, André Richard Salon who so graciously hosted The Blogger Blowout Bash.  André and his staff were wonderful and treated guests to their signature blowouts and makeup applications.

doorBella creating her awesome nail art.

DoorBella specializes in magical gel manis. The girls loved the no-dry time and the super cool designs that will last up to 2 weeks! Simply Adeline brought out the blogger’s creative side with custom designed jewelry.

Each blogger received a customized Simply Adeline design, so pretty!

While the majority of the evening was all about beauty, Philly FABB also promotes brand expansion and development, so we were thrilled to have Richie from Bad Rhino at The Blogger Blowout Bash. The blogger’s had the opportunity to meet with Ritchie for an individual social media branding session.

The girls enjoyed an amazing spread from amazing Greek restaurant, Opa. The food was so delicious, next time my friends need a dinner suggestion, Opa will be at the top of my list!

Our little feast provided by Opa.

And for that little bit of sweet, Cupcakes by Vickie provided the most delectable mini cupcakes! There were classic vanilla and chocolate, of course. And the new necessary, red velvet, but by far my favorites were the cinnamon and the buffalo chicken. Yes, buffalo chicken. A little cornbread cake topped with a creamy buffalo chicken dip. Oh yum.

Cupcakes by Vickie: buffalo chicken cupcake FTW! Trust me on this one 😉

And don’t worry, the bloggers didn’t leave empty-handed! What kind of host would I be?! Each gift bag, provided by Nich, were full of goodies! Coterie gifted a Butter London nail polish and a gift certificate to use on their amazing beauty site! The bloggers received Dermablend’s SkinPerfector Pigment Correcting Primer (which I am so excited to try and review for you very soon!). Monroe and Main made sure we will remain stylish and warm with their cute black and white checkered scarf. Fine Featherhead provided us with super cute fly ties to give us dent-free and tear-free ponies! The plus-size online retailer and social site, Sonsi, gifted fabulous earrings and matching rhinestone cuff and bottle of H20 to keep us hydrated. The earrings are just the perfect bit of shine, love mine! Midnight Velvet made sure all the bloggers had every girl’s essentials: the perfect evening clutch and a shiny clear lip polish (that tastes like grapefruit! Mmm!). And last but certainly not least, André Richard gave the girls gift boxes of their new product line, ARS.

Definite gift bag swag: ARS by Andre Richard Salon.

It was so wonderful to meet so many bloggers from the PHL area. The Blogger Blowout Bash was enjoyed by all and that would not have been possible without our amazing sponsors! I’d like to give a HUGE thank you to our partners: André Richard Salon, Opa, Cupcakes by Vickie, doorBella, Simply Adeline, and Bad Rhino, and everyone who contributed to the gift bags: Nich, Coterie, Dermablend, Sonsi, Monroe and Main, Fine Featherhead, and Midnight Velvet. Your support means so much to us at Philly FABB!! xo

Nicole Miller Bridal Trunk Show

I look forward to the vibrant colors of the changing leaves every year but they always seems to sneak up on me. In my everyday rush, I don’t notice the leaves are losing their verdant summer hues. Even the few scattered leaves in my yard don’t seem to register, until that one moment when it seems all the leaves turned overnight!  That moment was this past Sunday morning, which couldn’t have been a more perfectly Autumn day.

I realized that the trees are in their full Fall glory while driving up to Nicole Miller on Main St. in Manayunk for their Bridal Trunk Show. This was my first visit to Nicole Miller’s Manayunk location and the store is just a little haven of style. The friendly associates are so knowledgeable and it’s very clear that manager, Samantha Sciolla, loves working with her customers. Samantha and her team do an excellent job of creating a personalized experience for each bride; many stayed to chat long after deciding on a gown!

Besides meeting with the brides and discussing their beauty needs and the services offered by The Style Darling, I had the pleasure of dolling up the gorgeous Natalie Krane who so graciously modeled Nicole Miller’s newest bridal collection. Natalie was photographed by the talented Heather Sizemore of HLS Photography. All of the beautiful photos were taken by Heather. Casa Papel was there to showcase their absolutely spectacular paper invitations and stationary. Their storefront is located in Northern Liberties or visit their website to see all of their stunning paperie. Couture Candy Buffets provided a display of confections that looked almost too good to eat (I must stress ‘almost’).

I was thrilled to be included in Nicole Miller’s Bridal Trunk Show, thanks so much to Samantha for all her hard work! It was a pleasure to meet all the very special brides and be there while making the big dress decision!

“Scary Beautiful” by Leanie van der Vyver

“Scary Beautiful” by Leanie van der Vyver.

Deemed the “scariest shoes of all time” by Joanna Douglas, senior fashion and beauty editor at Shine for Yahoo!, these spectacular shoes by South African artist Leanie van der Vyver + Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg are much more than an outlandish display of frivolous fashion. Aptly named “Scary Beautiful” by the artist, these shoes serve as commentary on society’s perfectionism obsession and despite their inability to articulate, the impact of their message is profound.

In the words of the artist, Leanie van der Vyver, “Humans are Playing God by physically and metaphorically perfecting themselves. Beauty is currently at an all time climax, allowing this project to explore what lies beyond perfection.” (‘Playing God’ is a link to the introduction of her thesis of the same name. It’s only two paragraphs and well worth reading.)

How better to express a disdain of the ceaseless mania associated with achieving physical perfection than to create a pair of shoes that demand attention and instantly spark controversy? In the most elegant manner possible, van der Vyver has stirred the pot of conventionality and through her sensational design has, at least, given this blogger renewed perspective on perfection.

The final question remains…can you actually walk in these things?! Sure! But I hope you aren’t in a hurry.

Here you can view other pieces by Leanie van der Vyvyer.
